"We'll do it all, everything..."
We ended up in the tiny town of Youghal (pronounced y'all with an irish accent) after Dublin. The only reason we landed here I guess was friends we met in Amsterdam live here so figured we would catch up and get a local look at the country side.
Sarah Jane and Brendan came and met us on arrival and drove us around to see the highlights. Mostly the beach really. But it was a real sand beach and actually kinda nice. Really cold obviously. Then back into the main town for dinner and a night out. It was just like a country town at home. Dias and I stood out like sore thumbs in the two pubs and one "night club". Fun enough still. Next day was the hurling semi finals. For those that don't know it's an Irish sport sort of like ice hockey on grass. The local pub was packed and much to Sarah's disappointment Killkenny won. No one else seemed to care though as her team, Waterford, is the next town over and the rivalry is quite fierce. From there her and Fiona took us to dinner before the Shanagarry festival.
This is ment to be just a small thing a couple of town over so Dias and I had low expectations. As well pulled up the street was full of people, bar packed and festival music pumping! We walked into the crowd with both Sarah's and they said meet in the bar soon while we finished our bulmers we already had. In the street we meet more locals once they worked out we were Aussie. One guy in particular was saying wait for the real craic boys just wait. Then from no where a huge fight. Like 25 or more people just jumping in when our new friend ran back up to us saying "here we go the real craic" and jumped in himself! Idiots we figured and before anything happened we got ourselves safely in the bar. We told the girls what we saw and they assured us it's normal. Stoopid Irish. We then went into the festival it's self. It was a band playing Irish songs and a huge crowd jumping/dancing and singing. It's crazy. Factor in most are drunk and it gets pretty loose. Still a good night to see how local kids party. It's crazy and stoopid and now I know.
