"Everything is going wrong..."
It was ment to be one of this trips highlights. Heading to Pukkelpop, a music festival in Belgium for 3 days. We got to Belgium, checked the weather all looked good. Mid 20's, sunshine perfect festival weather. So we trekked out to the site of the gig and it was busy as and pumping already. Excellent! After setting up our tent we went in and began a day of watching bands. It got to about 630 and we had seen two of the hundreds of bands when the rain set in. We didn't mind rain is bearable but then the wind started and in the space of 2 minutes it was a full on storm.
We hid in a stage tent that we would have watched a band from anyway but it started to get really windy and the rain got heavier. We stood in the tent and watched another stage tent just get ripped up and blown away. Some scaffold went down to which triggered bit of a panic in the tent we where in. People started to notice it was shaking and flexing in the strong winds. Dias and I tried to make our way to the side incase it all came down so we could get out but it was to busy.
Eventually it slowed down the rain passed and the wind stopped. We left to tent to inspect the damage and it was far worse than we could see. Trees had fallen on other tents, both stage tents and peoples tents, the entire thing was flooded, and other stage tents had blown away. People didn't know what to do other than stomp though the mud back to their tent and see if it was standing to. Bit of punk luck finally kicked in and ours was fine and the inside mostly dry. Many other people no so lucky. If their tent was standing it was probably flooded. With no other choice we spent the night at the campsite huddled in our tent listening to the intense rain.
When morning came and we got up we got told firstly 5 people confirmed dead and loads more injured. Then the expected announcement that Pukkelpop is over time to go home.
