Wednesday : Sunny
Tops day today! Started off with breaky outside in the sun. Then we went for a 10+km hike, which went up the hill behind the hostel. We crossed over stone fences with ladders to pass through lots of hillside farms full of sheep. We stopped at a Neolithic stone burial chamber, on or way to a nice and high lookout point.
From the lookout we could easily see the coastline of northern Wales and back to the mountains of Snowdonia NP. It was definitely worth the climb. On the way down more jets went screaming overhead and we passed a 12th century stone church, that only gets used three times a year. It was used a lot more by the medieval tribes that used to live up there. Kim said it was the spookiest church she had ever seen.
Once back up at the hostel we jumped in the car and went to a very nice coastal town called Conwy and picked up some lunch. The town has a big castle that was built in the 13th century and has some very nice medieval streets.
After lunch we followed the coast and crossed the bridge over to Anglesea island, in the north west of Wales. We stopped at a beach on the south of the island but the tide was way out and had no waves, so we didn't stay for too long. Wondered to myself why there were people getting ready for a surf class in the car park too? We went to another very nice town called Beaumaris that had another castle. This castle had a moat that surrounded it, which was pretty cool. Not a lot else on the island pretty flat except for the holyhead peninsular, and just some nice beaches when there is water. The highlight was definitely Beaumaris and the drive to and from it along the inlet past all the sail boats, through the towns and over the Menai bridge.
We headed back along the coast through Conwy then back into Rowen. Stopped off at the pub and made reservation for tomorrow nights dinner. Gwizz it smelt good in there! Cant wait! Then into first gear all the way up the hill to the hostel, for dinner and bed. It's raining heavily on the roof now, so hopefully it clears up for tomorrow.
