6th of January 2010: Woke up Hung over as hell.. Liam the lucky boy had his own fold out bed whereas Rik, Siobhan, and I shared 2 single beds pushed together with 2 pillows… Lucky we love each other J. Quickly packed and headed down for a yogurt and vitamin drink from 7/11 and into a cab to the airport.. Delicious club sandwich for lunch, a new camera and a sprint to the plane we were on our way to Vietnam.. Its sad to leave Thailand… No more thai language. No more Sawadee Ka, Kun Sa bai dee ka, Me quam suk, Thao rai, lagon, ra ti sawat… I could go on forever but seriously its become so familiar.. Oh well a new adventure, a new culture, a new language to explore.. Bring on Vietnam. The plane journey was grand: we flew air France and drank red wine, enjoyed cheese, bread, and salami as well as yummy desert. We finished the short flight with who wants to be a millionaire… it still owes us 8000 pounds haha. Arriving in Hanoi was such a change to Bangkok, new language, temperature change of at least 15 degrees (less) and rip off cab drivers.. The story goes: we met a lone traveler martin who was heading to Hanoi backpackers as well, and jumped in a cab (freezing cold).. 45 minutes later we arrived at what was deemed Hanoi backpackers… after a quick check it was obvious it was not the right place and no matter how much the Vietnamese guys insisted it was we held firm and demanded him take us to the right place… WELOME TO VIETNAM! By 6:30pm we arrived at our backpackers… so totally cool. 8 beds to a room, really nice bathroom (hot water), free breaky, free wi-fi.. simple comforts.. Up to the roof bar we headed (the bar on top of the hostel) and chilled out, ate BBQ burgers, drank HILDA (Vietnamese beers, and chatted with the backpackers… siobhan and I came back after a few, had the most delicious shower and giggled to the random photos of Siobhans experiences thus far including the crazy stubborn horse J
Good night!
