Nha trang was my next stop, yet another 12 hour sleeper bus to the city that's a bit odd. Nha trang is known to be quite a social place because of its nightlife and beach which the city is based next to, literally a 2 minute wall from the hostel. And an awful lot of the shops are westernised, like supermarkets, bars and fast food restaurants, but at the same time there are a lot of Russians in this place, and a lot of signs and rstaurants have the translation for not only English but Russian also.
I'm not entirely sure of the background behind it but apparently it relates back to the war and they have some sort of relationship I'm guessing because I got told Russians don't need to pay for a visa to come over here and they can get flights straight to nha trang so it's got a Russian flavour to the city. And also you can tell who's Russian or not because the women are tall and generally blonde and the guys always have an angry face on them and are tall and well built, no messing with them!
We got warned prior to nha trang and also at the hostel that at night it can be really bad for pickpocket ing and stuff happening on nights out, people getting there drinks spiked and that sort of stuff, heard about a guy who went to a bar a few days before we arrived and he got spiked and I won't go into detail but he made a "mess"when he got back to the hostel, quite funny that I actually randomly met the guy in Saigon too.
The city itself is pretty busy so the first day we did a bit sightseeing with Tasso and another guy called chris, if we met people I would refer to myself as baldy chris and him as hairy chris because he had had a canny mop on him. Saw a few little sights and a massive 30 foot Buddha at a temple which was cool and them in the evening watched state of origin which is a massive rugby game in oz, the equivalent of north vs south, obviously I was supporting Queensland after my time in oz and they smashed it!
The second day we were slightly hungover and chilled on the beach in the afternoon in the sweltering heat then on the night me and chris met up with some people and went out again, only trouble we encountered was 3 Russians randomly starting on some people, and staff of a bar, basically looking for trouble. Apparently a guy in our hostel got pickpocketed that same night too.
