Awoke this morning to overcast skies but generally what looked to be a nice day. Headed up for a morning shower, in clean showers. Exited the showers to find that the weather had decided to deliver us a constant downpour. Thus the idea of leaving Clancy for the day was over - next a quick internet search for somewhere to eat and then off for the day. But first we decided to give Homer an extra couple of days.
Breakfast place that we were sure we saw open yesterday was closed! So aquick hunt of brochures identified 'Latitude 59' www.facebook.com/pages/Latitude-59/122805277745518 open and serving breakfast, although the range was limited. The coffee was hot, the wifi free and electricity to boot. So we settled in for some catch up and dry time while waiting for the weather to clear.
My lingering cold has now reached the really uncomfortable point. After some consultation on options we decided to have an indoor day to see if we could shake the lurgy.
After a long coffee, two for me, and a snack we headed off to the Pratt Museum www.prattmuseum.org/ the museum boasted both an historic and interactive view of Homer and the surrounds. I highly recommend this to anyone who makes it here. The displays were extensive, interactive and very interesting. The museum covered the last 10,000 odd years and gave an account of the good, bad and ugly of what has happened in the regeion. The view points were balanced and non-judgmental I enjoyed the time there. While there we bumped into Lee and Dee whom we had met in Fairbanks and had a catch up of there last few weeks.
Interesting Aside: Homer is a small town, yet it is bustling with activity at this time of year. You could really see why people would choose this as their home or at very least a place to spend summer.
All hopped Up café http://www.menupix.com/alaska/restaurants/450160/All-Hopped-Up-Homer-AK another eclectic looking shop in Homer, the coffee was not too bad the wifi was free, no electricity! The shop did close early 17:00 which means that they are either making too much money or don't need it!
For dinner we chose the Mermaid Café www.mermaidcafe.net/ what a great choice the dinner would rival most of the big name restaurants in Melbourne. The servings were of good size and exquisite in taste and presentation. Price wise it is expensive for Alaska but given the swill we had in Seward that was about half the price of the main meals here. It was US$28 mains that were brilliantly cooked and presented seafood.
After dinner we headed back to the RV Park to setup Clancy for the night. We again employed the flyscreen to increase the airflow in the car. Even though it continued to rain sleep arrived.
Interesting Aside: Adventure Caravans www.adventurecaravans.com provide guided RV tours - not a bad way if that is your intended travel. Although the groups we have seen are in the retirement category they all seem active and interested in seeing more of North America.
Animals Spotted: Today other than the Eagles in the nest and crows and seagulls, along with a few domestic dogs there was not much to report.
