The road from Encarnacion to Cuidad del Este
Entering the Encarnacion bus station I was inundated with folks wanting to broker me a ticket. I am not sure if the 60,000 guarani I paid was the standard rate but the bus was leaving as I was paying. Hoping onto a moving bus with a backpack and flip flops takes focus. The bus was not nearly as nice as the 65,000 Guarani bus from Asuncion, possibly foreshadowing the difference between Asuncion and Encarnacion, from the supposedly dodgy Cuidad del Este.
On my rickety bus the road between Encarnacion and Cuidad del Este was a hot dusty mix of farmland, the occasional town, and oddly a number of John deer dealerships, selling newly washed upscale tractors, a possible sign of the emerging Paraguayan economy? I wonder what this landscape looked like before it was slashed and burned into corn and sugarcane fields?
