Last night I had a dream. My yard extended out, surrounded by a wooden fence with a large gate facing the rear of an adjacent home. I walked out of my home to find the gate open, giving me a view of the neighbor's yard. There was a kid playing on a red plastic slide. A moment later the son's father appeared holding what was clearly a dog chewed leather briefcase. He started berating me that my dog got into his basement and ate his $6000 bag. It was a collector's item or some sort of family heirloom. I told him that if his kid didn't keep opening my gate that this would not have happened and for that matter how did he know that it was my dog that ate the briefcase. At this point Bella was running around with scraps of leather in her mouth. I then told the man how could the dog get into the basement, it was not like dogs could open doors with their paws. Dejectedly he turned back to his home and said, "Maybe I could make a wallet out of it." I told him that I would build a bigger fence. I then awoke to hear Sarah in the bed next to mine talking in her sleep. What did it all mean?
In the morning, I realized that if I were to go see the Batu Caves that I would have to skip the half day tour of the tea plantations. I was not really crazy about tea anyway. Sarah and I parted ways and I headed back into town to book a bus back to KL. A bit passed the bus station I was greeted by a wall of deliciousness; someone was cooking something yummy. I followed my nose into a covered food court. It was looking lively at nine in the morning. I found what brought me there, a little old lady frying up chicken pieces in a large wok. It seemed what everyone else was having. I lined up and was given another scrumptious meal in Malaysia, chicken rangdan, super moist fried chicken and rice with a slightly spicy red sauce. The woman was excited to have me and wanted me to taste her curry so she gave me a little more rice and added curry sauce with that. On the side was a condiment of fresh cucumbers and peanuts (Malaysian peanuts were to die for, super crunchy). It was a great meal. A little spicy but then cooled with the cucumbers. Nice way to start the day before catching the 11:00 AM bus back out of the Cameron Highlands.
Back in the heat of KL I check back into the Orange Pekoe, dropped my bags and headed to the Batu Caves; I was chasing down the last of my itinerary and the looming thunder clouds entering the city. By the time I boarded the thirty minute train from KL Central to the Batu Caves the sky turned grey black and dumped rain for the entire trip. The rain tapered off to a sprinkle by the time I reached the caves but rain left the stairs up to the caves slick, each step up required thought, and not the contemplative kind.
I was hoping to find monkeys on my ascent but sadly I only saw roosters. The caves were impressive as were the views from the entrance. It was worth my early departure from the Cameron highlands.
