Well the time has come for this fantastic adventure to come to an end. I've laughed, I've cried, and faced some fears. I've seen wonders of the world and marvelled at spectacular wildlife, but most importantly I've met some wonderful people who have touched my heart in so many ways. Some I encountered only briefly, others I feel privileged to now call friends and hope to do so for a lifetime.
I've learned a lot of things on this trip too. Some are deeply personal, some I'll probably forget until the next trivia night but a few I thought I will share:
Always have a roll of toilet paper or plentiful supply of tissues in my bag.
I am now officially too old and impatient with other peoples inconsideration for dorm rooms. Hostels are fine but a private room, or sharing with someone I know or someone from a tour only.
When I was younger, I made friends with men more easily than women. Now I make friends more easily with women but have difficulty with men... Probably for the same reason. Whilst I welcome the more meaningful interactions I have now I still sometimes miss the old days.
I can live without chocolate for extended periods of time... But I prefer not to have to.
I love the taste of cute furry critters.
I prefer traveling with other people to being on my own
A girl should always have at least one nice dress in her backpack - if only to make herself feel good.
Sometimes when you are away from home it helps to know at least one person misses you.
Whilst inability to speak a language may seem a barrier, a lot can be accomplished with some sign language and a smile.
I love South America!!!
So yes it with a heavy heart that I leave this beautiful land but I look forward to going home to some long awaited hugs from loved ones, snuggles with new family additions, catch ups with old friends and to planning the next adventure! I won't say adios as I very much want to come back, and so it's hasta luego America del Sur.
