Last night was another late dinner. I really can't get used to not eating until midnight. Food was good at least - I had a chicken breast in mango chutney with puréed potato and carrot (I think). Most of the other group and a couple of ours headed out to a club after dinner but having had a maximum of 3 hours sleep in any one stint over the last few days and knowing we had a 6am start this morning I headed back. (still only got 2 + 1 hours sleep - I think my body is starting to think its normal).
There were a lot of tired people on the bus today - the clubbers got back just in time for breakfast. Lucky for me I ended up with 2 seats to myself for most of the trip so managed a few hours sleep (although again only in 45min to 1 hr bursts). Felt ok when we got into Sao Paulo which is good cause this place is a little overwhelming. It has a population of around 20million and I think a fair proportion of them were at the bus station! The rest were at the square near our hotel where some sort of concert was on all afternoon. The street was a constant parade of colorful costumes on a mostly gay/ transsexual crowd (bit of an eye opener for some of the guys on this trip). Can hear the music and cheering from the hotel room but unfortunately can't see much. Have been told not to walk around here alone which kind of sucks when everyone else in the group is pretty much paired off. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to hang out with the other group and see some stuff. I did get a chance to sort through some photos but the Internet here is unreliable so having trouble getting stuff uploaded.
Tonight was another all you can eat BBQ buffet restaurant. Unfortunately the food was nowhere near as good as the last one. Sao Paulo has a large Japanese population though so hopefully we'll get some Asian food tomorrow. I will confess to being underwhelmed by the food in south America so far. Hopefully it improves.
Anyway this is starting to sound negative which it shouldn't be. I am enjoying my trip and seeing some amazing things and I know how lucky I am to be able to do it. Guess I'm just feeling a little trapped in a hotel alone (roommate staying in the tour leaders room again - think ill have my own room until Rio which is nice).
