Hola,
Me again, just reporting back.
Carrying on from the last blog.
After reaching San Pedro by bus, leaving the lovely Utila behind us, we set out on our 2nd bus journey on our way to Belize. This bus took us to Puerto Cortes, which wasn't that far away, maybe 1.5 hours, on the north coast of Honduras. After this we then took our 3rd bus of the day, which took us over the border into Guatemala and a place called Puerto Barrios, a border town that is an absolute s*** hole, as many border towns tend to be.
We arrived here too late to catch the boat across to Punta Gorda in Belize so unfortunately we had to spend the night in the hole that is Puerto Barrios. It is just a port town with a shed load of massive American lorries carrying cargo containers to and from the dock.
We stayed here with a girl from Northern Ireland called Ailis./£" The first hostel we visited looked more like a prison than anything else, with no shower etc, it was just poverty. Needless to say we sacked that one off and went to another place called Hotel Lee, which appears in the Lonely Planet guide, but to be honest whoever was given the unfortunate task of writing about Puerto Barrios probably just grabbed a moped, wizzed around and made a few notes before getting the hell out of there, rather than actually staying here - and I wouldn't blame them...........ITS A s***
