pip and binny's days of fun....
went to visit the killing fields of choung ek today. Unfortunately its is the wet season here and it chucked it down with rain so we both had to sport a rather attractive plastic sheet like rain coat to stop us getting completely wet!!!!
At the killing fields it is pretty horrific, they have a monument that has glass walls filled with skulls and bones they found when the excavated the site in 1980. As you walk round there are mass graves that are no bigger than a garden pond but which held 200 odd dead bodies. Coz it was raining and washing away some of the mud there were rags of clothes starting to show.
We then went to the genocidal museum, its kept as they found it, as the prison S21, it has all the photos they found of the people that were known to enter S21 and it also has photos of the last 14 bodies they found (the last people to be killed at S21). It horrible how they were tortured and killed. Kept in tiny wooden cells with one small hole in the door to allow guards to check on them.
After all that death we went to the market to do some shopping and lighten the mood!!! its a massive undercover market (which means its roasting in there!) with clothes stores/bags/food/jewellry. I think i spent about $10 and got two t shirts, a bag, some cropped trousers and a silk scarf. Fi did better than i did!!! We're getting pretty good at bartering now.
It chucked it down again at night and we had to wade through about 4 inches of water to get to our dorm!!!! fun and games!!!!
plus we're both very tasty and are covered in bites!!!!
