So I spent an unforgettable 22nd birthday sightseeing in Phnom Penn. Although it was quite depressing and very emotional learning about Cambodia's struggles through the Pol Pot regime, it was all worth it as at the end of the day we got to visit Komphak's families village (our guide). We had an early start at the genocide museum, Pol Pot's first torture detention centre. It was an old converted school which had been modified to hold hundreds of people in disguist...

Finally made it to Cambodia, after various bus rides from Bangkok and a slightly nervous border entry for our tour guide (recent turmoil between the two countries means border crossing on the Thailand side was pretty nerving for him) but we got through and arrived at our, eerrmm very basic hotel, large insects included. The first day in Siem Reap started at 4.45am!!!! Headed to Ankor Wat to see sunrise at the temple but due to the monsoon season wasn't too great....
