Day 24
I wake up and someone's made me ill.....
I feel ropey has hell..... I'm not sure what locally produces alcoholic drinks have in them but the way I'm feeling it's mainly acid and grit I think....
We are leaving vang vein for our final destination in Laos today.... Vientiane
We are sitting in the open air lobby of our hotel when a ramshackle old bus noisily clatters to a stop outside.... Oh great we think, loading our bags... We've read that vehicle breakdowns in Laos are a given and should be expected..... This bus looks like it'll be lucky to make it to the end of the street, let along a 5 hr journey on roads perched on the side of numerous mountains... So we breath a big sigh of relief when we are transferred from this bus to a double decker coach at the local bus terminal.... We manage to get ourselves good seats and I set about passing the many hours ahead by repeatedly telling myself that the feeling of impending uncontrolled projectile vomiting will pass, along with the small person in my head hammering at the inside of my skull with a large hammer....
5 hrs later as we role to a stop after passing mile anger mile if stunning mountainous scenery Im beginning to feel half human again, so after yet another pickup taxi ride in the back of a vehicle that had no suspension at all we arrive, half shaken to death at our hotel in Vientiane.
Its a large hotel called Mixay Paradise. We squeeze into the worlds smallest hotel room and I throw myself on the bed.... I need to sleep so thankfully the bed was comfortable and Shiree never needs to be asked twice if a afternoon knapp is on offer... We set the alarm and drift off to sleep for a while....
Its another new town so when we head out for food we have no idea where to go.... Blind luck lead us to a lovely little restaurant where I eat some food..... We both opt for Thai Green Curry.... We notice that this restaurant offers cooking classes which is something I'd like to try before our travels end so we wait with high expectations for our meal....
The presentation was first class but the flavours were a little over powering for both of us..... Bay tree leaves and Lemon grass in our opinion should be left unpicked in a field somewhere miles away from a dinner plate....
We head back after eating for a early night.
