Yesterday we arrived in Battambang in the early afternoon and found a nice hotel. We then took a wonder around the city which wasn't to thrilling to be honest. Although it's the second biggest city in Cambodia it's tiny and you can really do everything there is to do in a day.
So today we headed off to do everything there is to do. We started off with the "bamboo train" which is basically a bamboo structure with a engine on that rockets along a disused railway for about 20 minutes then turns around and comes back. It's hilariously fun and my new favourite form of transport!
After the train we visited a place known as the killing caves where during the pol pot regime 10,000 people were murdered by being thrown off the cliffs and into a large cave system. There is a shrine at the location and a memorial containing the bones of the people they have found there.
The last on the list was the bat cave! On the opposite side of the mountain to the killing cave there is a large opening halfway up the cliff where at dusk millions of bats fly out of to go hunting during the night. There are so many that it takes 45 minutes for them all to leave and they form an incredible swarm as they head off over the fields. A absolutely stunning site!
Tomorrow we head to Bangkok in the morning and should be there by late afternoon. We are there for a few days and then we head down to Phuket for Christmas!!!!
