As I was going out today, you think I may have gotten up early, no I had no intention of doing that, especially when everyone else in the hostel does this and you can't access the shower facilities. I ended up giving up on the idea of a shower this morning, thank god for Africa.
I got dressed and went for a walk to get breakfast. I had a full English breakfast including chips for four pounds. I was really full afterwards. I walked to London Bridge station after breakfast and bought a four zone travel card for the day and hopped on the District line out to Richmond, which was the end of the line. Once there I had to get a bus out to the Palace, which I managed with no difficulty.
I arrived at the Palace and paid the extortionate seventeen quid to go in. It was the palace of King Henry VIII, and I actually learnt quite a lot from walking around. I didn't actually realize, that he only had two of his wives executed. I originally thought it was all of them. Upon reading about the two that were beheaded I almost felt like the Queen of hearts was going to come running into the room and scream at me, Off with her head!
The rooms were quite spectacular and there were lots of paintings of the old Tudor royals on the walls. The best thing about this palace, was I almost had it all to myself, unlike the palace at Versailles, which I had to share with literally thousands of other people, something which basically ruined the experience for me.
The main reason I had come to this place was the fact that it is home to England's oldest hedge maze. I've always wanted to get lost in a maze, so getting lost is exactly what I did. I entered the maze and was lost by the first two turns. After about half an hour I thought I had found my way to the exit, but instead I had just found the entry again! A Homer Simpson type, D'oh! Definitely, slipped through my lips. I went back in, turning and twisting, trying to find the center though the ten foot high hedges…giggling the entire time. It took me about another forty minutes, but at last I had solved the maze and found the center. I had another Alice in Wonderland moment, wondering if the playing cards would all come running to find me and insist, we paint the roses red.
I exited the maze after getting lost in it yet again and I had a walk through the spectacular gardens, all full of my favourite flowers…Daffodils. I then went and had a look at the chapel in the Palace, which reminded me of the house in the movie The Haunting. The ceiling was turquoise with gold stars and gilded cherubs were everywhere.
I left the palace and got the bus back to town, although not before visiting a nearby convenience store and learning they still have orange Callippos here! I enjoyed my Callippo and then got the bus back to the station and the train to Kew Gardens. The Gardens were sixteen quid to get into and there was no way I was going to pay that just to visit some gardens so I got back on the tube and went to visit Gunnersbury Park, where my Mum used to play as a kid. She had taken us there in 1993 and I had wanted to visit it again if time permitted.
It was quite a way from the station, but I found it ok, immediately upon arriving I found the old castle ruins and went to play in them. I climbed up into a ruined turret and just sat there looking out at the park, which seemed surprisingly empty for such a lovely day. The age of technology and all the kids inside playing video games don't know what they're missing.
I walked around the huge park and went to have a look at the old boating pond where Mum and here friend Jane had once sunk one of the boats. Its now just a duck pond with no boats, which I found a bit sad. As at the palace, there were daffodils everywhere and I proceeded to lay down amongst them and fall asleep in the sun. I awoke and didn't want to move, but it was getting late and I had to get back to London.
I got the tube straight to Piccadilly and went and picked up my theatre tickets to see Les Miserables, something else I had always wanted to do in London. I then went and had dinner at a nearby Chinese place, before the show started at 7:30pm
The show was brilliant, it was very colourful and actually quite funny in parts. There were quite a few moments in it though, where I ended up crying. There were a couple of characters that I actually really related to. The show finished at 11pm and I got the tube back to the hostel and went to bed. Tomorrow is the last day that is really my own. I start with Tucan the day after.

Mum I used to love going to Hampton Court Palace with my family when I was a kid, we used to have a lot of fun getting lost in the maze too.
Dad It is one place I have never been to, but, should have. I will go on my next visit to England.
