Another early start today as we surveyed the damage done by last night's wind. The funniest incident was that people who were in tents by themselves had been blown all over the place. Cat's description of being trapped in here overturned tent was the funniest, Cyn helped her to right her tent when she got up to go to the bathroom.
We were on and off the truck quite a bit today, we stopped for shopping in a place called Outjo (where I managed to get an amazing green ice, little things are important) and then headed to a place called Cheetah Park. In this place they keep tame Cheetah's and feed the wild ones so they don't attack the villagers cattle and get themselves killed by the villagers in the process. They came and got us from the camp and we all piled into the back of a ute and were taken up to the house, where three full grow cheetahs and one cub were waiting for us. They were pacing up and down the fence, along with a fox terrier to whom they paid no attention.
We walked through the gate and the big cats came up to us rubbed up against our legs and licked us, just like, if not friendlier than domestic house cats. It was impossible to feel the least bit intimidated my these beautiful friendly creatures. We patted them and played with the cub, who at one point became fascinated with my thong and decided to play with my feet. I ended up copping a little nip to my Achilles tendon, which made me squeal a bit, but no harm done and the cub moved on to the next moving object.
After our fun with Earth's fastest land animal, we hopped back on the ute and went back to the camp. I got straight in the pool and missed the cheetah feeding, something I didn't really care about seeing. There were some other more wild cheetah in a large pen nearer the camp, there was also a sink near then pen. I did my washing at the sink and chatted with mumma cat and baby talked to her cubs…..not that any of them answered back. Where else in the world, could I do my washing with cheetahs three feet away.
After dinner, we had our trivia night, which was a lot of fun. I was on a team with Phil, Dan and Tara. People bemoaned Phil and I being on the same team, we did win the game, most of which was trivia questions about Africa. We won the game, even though we only got three points out of ten on the sports questions. There was a lot of gloating, with me running around and yelling, We're number one, we're number one! It was quite late after the trivia game so we all went to bed.
