This morning I came down for breakfast which was brought out to me and resembled something that one would get in Turkey. I then went out in my limited amount of time before leaving for the Ger camp to find a working ATM. This search took up the entire hour and I only just made it back to the hotel in time, which included a panic stricken moment where I actually thought I had gotten lost. At the last minute I realized I was standing next to the huge monastery our hotel is near. I did actually manage to find some free WiFi to check my email and update my facebook so everyone knows I'm alive, before heading off into the wilderness.
I got back to the hotel and met our two guides Amra and Doume and jumped on the bus, getting on last so I could do my head count. Moy has started to make a habit of saying random numbers to attempt to make me miss count. I have informed him that one day I will miss count and that will be the day when he is late back to the bus.
It took us a while to get out of the city and again the traffic was quite bad. We visited an ATM and a supermarket on the way out and also stopped for the toilet. Our first stop was at a sacred pile of rocks, which is important to the Shamanist religion. There were other things mixed in with the pile, including money, blue silk and little idols. There was also a couple of souvenir shops, or should I say souvenir Gers nearby and we had fun trying on all the funny hats in one of them.
Our next stop was by the river for lunch, the river was still partially frozen over and people, especially the Australians had fun having pictures taken standing on the ice. Alan came up with this great idea to dig a hole and sit the beer in it to cool it down. Pretty soon we had a rather large icy hole filled with beer cans. Typical Aussies.
We had salad and pasta for lunch which was prepared by our guides and then after lunch a shaggy looking dog came swimming across the river to claim the leftovers. We then piled back into the bus and went to turtle rock, which as the name suggests, is a pile of rocks that looks somewhat like a turtle. There was a two humped, wooly Bactrian camel there and some of us, again including me had a ride on him. The camel had a lovely personality, and I immediately walked up to him and started to pat him on the top of the head, which he leaned into and obviously loved. Sooky camel.
We had reached the end of the day and headed out to our Ger camp, I divided everyone up into the strange dome shaped white tents, with colourful painted doors and then set about organizing dinner. I got dinner organized for 7:30pm and had a bit of a lay around for a while.
We had dinner and then I stayed in the restaurant drinking with Sarah, Tom and Moy, before heading off to Alan and Rachels, Ger, which had been dubbed the party Ger. I spent a bit of time in there, before attempting to steal some of their fire for my Ger. I couldn't managed to get the piece of wood to stay lit long enough to get the fire Ger going in my Ger, so Alan and Moy thankfully came and made a fire for us. What is it with guys and making fire, I think its something primal.
