My feet have never been this sore in my life! I've walked everywhere today!
I started today by walking back down to Notre Dame, this time crossing the river and going inside the magnificent church. It was silent inside and the atmosphere was spine tingling. The rose window was immense and it was so colourful. There were stained glass windows everywhere. The whole place was so overwhelming, I had to sit down in a pew and just admire it for a few minutes.
After Notre Dame I walked all the way up to the Fountain St Michel, which was huge and depicted the angel Michel slaying an enemy. Oddly, the statue had a traffic cone resting on it, even though it was at least 30 meters in the air. I wondered how a traffic cone got that high up. Same way it does everywhere else, I thought. Drunk idiots.
I then proceeded down to the metro to get the train to the Musee de d'Orsay, where all the great impressionists works are kept. The museum was beautiful and I saw many famous works, including Vincent van Gough's Self Portrait and Edgar Degas Dancers.
I then got back on the metro to Invalides and had a look at the Musee de Grande Armee. I didn't go in as it was almost 4pm, but I had a look around at the exceptionally beautiful building. It almost looked like a church with its gold dome. It also had topiary sculptures in the grounds reminding me a bit of Alice in Wonderland.
At this point I decided that my feet were too sore for me to go any further, so I got the metro back to St Michel and walked back to Bastille. On the way I bought myself a really old map of Europe from a man selling pictures down by the Seine. I love things like that.
I had a bit of a rest at the hotel and then had dinner on the Champs Elysees again. Not as fancy as last night, this time I had to settle for McDonalds.
