Today we only had to navigate around the other side of Hvar island to the pretty little town of Stari Grad. Once we got there the sun came out and I went off exploring the narrow allys, which had washing hanging between the houses and looking at the small boats in the marina. I ended up in a coffee shop, just sitting in the sun and appreciating life.
At about 3pm it is time to go wine tasting and we are picked up in a small van and driven about six kilometres down the road. I sit with the Aurora group, who I don't really know and am give four different wines to try. I'm not really a wine fan, but the guy who owns the place is quite cute so I'm ok with it. The most fun part of the experience for me is the over crowded bus ride home, where the driver insists on taking pictures of his overcrowded van full of drunk tourists.
This evening the guys on the boat did a happy hour so the theme of the night was drinking games. Janice had gone for an early night so I was Shanghai'd into playing. First up, helmet shots, as soon as the helmet came out, Sam yelled, I think Kristina should go first, her first trip with Sail Croatia! Everyone starts chanting my name. Screw you peer pressuring b******s, I say jokingly and they all laugh. This is how I ended up eating crickets! Everyone laughs hysterically. Sorry, I say, that probably needed some kind of context. I strap myself into the old WWII helmet and Bobo goes to make the drink that I will be skulling after someone ruthlessly bashes me over the head with the glass.
Bobo comes back with some blue cloudy concoction in a highball glass. Someone yells, Now whose going to bang her! I laugh sheepishly and everyone else is in hysterics at what this person has said and not realised. Context!!!! I yell. More laughs. Toni should bang her! Sam yells. Toni gives me a cheeky grin. Toni comes over to me with the glass, which now has a napkin covering the top. Sit down, he says to me in his amazing deep voice. I sit, preparing myself. Toni holds the glass over my head then taps the bottom about ten times in rapid succession on the helmet and then hands me the drink which I now have to finish. I finish it with no problems, but I find it has tobacco sauce in the bottom and my mouth is now burning a little. I shoot Bobo and evil look and he shoots me a cheeky grin in return.
We end up playing several drinking games, including a game of four kings, which we need to play with two packs of cards because there are so many of us and it then becomes eight kings. After this game, which finds most people in hysterics, the others play another drinking game and I elect to sit in the salon and drink with Captain Gordon.
The captain drinks wine and gassy water, I drink double Jack Daniels and coke. We sit there and talk for about two hours. The captain's English is not as good as Toni's or Bobo's so it's really just me talking and him making the occasional comment. One phrase he says to me is one of the nicest compliments I think I've ever gotten, You're magnetic, the captain says. I think he's just been fascinated watching me talk and I have enjoyed the conversation, with this quite good looking older man, with smiling blue eyes. Indeed so much so that I look around and everyone else has gone to bed and it's 2am and I've not even realised until now. I tell the captain I will see him in the morning and he kisses me on the cheek and I go to bed.
