Friday morning we got up and drove into Mt Isa and spoilt ourselves with a McDonalds breakfast. Had a bit of a look around, it's really busy with a lot of country folk and aborigines, we worked out it was the start of a 3 day rodeo in town a big event.
Fueled up and drove on stopping at Cloncurry for lunch in a nice park. Then checked out a museum, lots of history on the rocks and mining in the area.
Drove on to about 60kms before Winton where we stopped for the night at a flat area behind a strange mini mountain. We were on our own. Ellie and I climbed the mountain while Rose cooked dinner. There was a track straight up one side and down the other, very steep with lots of rocks and a fine white powder. 4wd's have been testing themselves out I don't think we'd make it. It was a good view all round. We saw a kangaroo almost up the top looking around when we woke in the morning. We wondered why it was on it's own then thought of the hundreds and hundreds we have seen dead along the road and maybe it had lost it's partner. Hmmmm.
Through Winton in the morning and on to Longreach where we stopped to make ourselves a coffee and a bit of a look around, fueled up and on our way.
Quite a big drive today through to Charleville where we have booked into a caravan park for the night, our Saturday night bath ha. We have never seen so many kangaroos killed on the roads, every hundred metres there'd be one for kilometre after kilometre. People have told us they have had three good years in the area so guess they have bred up and therefore lots trying to cross the road. We also learnt that the "nice" people in the cities have pretty much shut down the export market for Kangaroo. Pigging is pretty big business with an abattoirs here and lots of vehicles set up to hunt the wild pigs.
