We successfully negotiated our travel from Bangkok Train Station, platform 5 to Chiang Mai Station on the overnight train. We left Bangkok at 6pm at a speed of about 20 mph, we had a 1st class cabin (with air-con), sounds great but my idea of first class is a little different. We have been exploring Bangkok but it's hot so today we had a well deserved day by the pool! We leave here on Monday night on the overnight train to Chiang Mai in the North. We will be there for a few days before heading into Laos. For anyone who fancies Bangkok it's an amazing place, it's so busy and a complete contrast to Hong Kong. The ping pong show was an essential and very weird tourist experience though!

We are now in Bangkok. We eventually left Hong Kong in the typhoon which led to a 3 hour delay and a fairly shakey take off. The drive from the airport to the hotel was intersting with the taxi driver not knowing where the hotel was. We had a great day yesterday on Lantau Island, we took the MTR (subway) to Tung Chung then got on a cable car to Ngong Ping 360 to see the Giant Buddha. 260 steps up in this heat is no fun, but the view was great. The from Tung Chung we got the bus to Tai O, a small village of houses on stilts. We finished the day in Times Square in Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island. We have spent a few days here now and we love it! We have been to The Peak, to Stanley and Repulse Bay, we have watched the light show over the harbour, we visited Nan Lian Garden this morning and the flower and bird markets in Kowloon. It is very warm here, when we were on the beach at Repulse bay yesterday it was 34 degrees with 85% humidity and very sunny!
