We left Hahei bright and early and headed towards Raglan.
On our way we stopped at a small town called Paeroa for a bite to eat. Paeroa is only known for one thing and that is the 'World Famous in NZ' drink lemon and Paeroa. Every shop fron is decorated in L&P merchandise (even though it's now owned by Coke and brewed in Auckland).
The only sight really worth seeing is the giant L&P bottle, and being tourists we had a big group photo next to it. ( I also had a fecking teesh steak & cheese pie!!)
Newx stop was the Waireinga/Bridal Veil Fall. The waterfall is actually quite spectacular with beautiful views of native bush from the top and a stunning view from the bottom looking up at the waterfall. Iwas clicking away on the camera like a proper tourist, Iwasn't to know at the time that this iwas only going to be one of about a 1000 waterfalls i'd see in NZ!
We arrived in Raglan mid afternoonand the weather was pretty s***ty.
Raglan is interbationally famous for surfing. There are supposed to be some of the best breaks in the world and attracts surfers from all over the world. Because of the miserable weather none of had the chance to go surfing.
We stayed in a lodge which was nestled in the hill among native bush and overlooking the beach. Probably one of the coolest places I've stayed.
At night all around the lodge you can see glow worms. The glow worms are the larvae of the fungus gnat, which looks like a mosquito without the mouth parts.
The larvae have luminescent organs that produce a soft greenish light. It's some sight looking down the drivewayto the lodge and all you can see on the overhangs arethousands of glow worms lighting the way.
