Fans go off at 6am and we are up. Noodles and bread start my day. The dive today is to an artificial reef. Unusual as it is setup as an underwater villiage with the twin towers. A ghost town populated by large tropical fish and a variety of nudibranches. After our lunch slop, we head to scuba junkies where the only internet exists. A painful hour to check on Mo and read a few emails. Sabah as a region I am learning excel at doing the bare minimum. Lazy or stupid, I'm not sure. Not a lot to do when the tide is out so I sleep in the hammock drifting off to Henri Pfr and Summer Memories. Craig runs in to tell me they are releasing baby turtles back into the sea. We are fortunate as the season for this is November or December. I speak with the conservationist who tells me they are Hawksbill turtles. The locals would either sell or eat them so they are closely protected to increase the population. He lets me carry 3 of the slower turtles down to the water which is something I will remember (LT).
We suit up for the night dive, just over 2 metres down along the boat trail. The best night dive I have done by far (LT). We are treated to 2 of the rarest Octopus in the world. Starry eyed and Mosaic.
My dive book records a catalogue of incredible species including multiple varieties of moray eels swimming underneath me. After 90 minutes the finale is the largest sea snake I have seen, around 2 metres and it is almost close enough to touch. We sit up talking to Ben, Marcello, Luana and a new girl from Singapore called Penny. I watch an eagle ray pass in front of me at the overhanging platform. I go to bed leaving the 4 heavily armed military, that have spent the evening here to watch the sea.
