After the wonder of Angkor, we settled into our new room at the Dancing Frog. More orientated to backpacking and the French owners Chris and Mary are very accommodating. Not hanging around we went on a quest for cheaper beer finding a friendly place called the Red Tomato costing a princely sum of 50 cents US. After several well deserved beers, we meandered to several more bars at this price. After last night at the rock bar ( never found out its name) we popped back for more Cambodian Metallica delighted to hear their version of Gangnam style and various other hits. Heading to Charlie's where the younger fish eyed backpackers huddled for safety we finished off at the x bar again and it seems to be the closing point in the low season. But good for more live music. Noticed that the tuk tuk drivers ask you 3 questions whilst walking around : "tuk tuk?" , "boom boom?" , followed by "chicken farm?". With option 3, I can only presume that they think we are supermarket suppliers from the UK in need of more stock.
The night saw us next to the insect stall in the market, where an English chap and 2 Americans were deliberating over what to eat. Cheap beer comes at a cost and I suggested that the Englishman and Scotsman eat a tarantula. But only of course if my friend Craig ate a handful of various bugs. Picking up the spider and popping it into my mouth, I found just how chewy they are and what can only be described as thousands of hairs washing around my mouth in the process. Not much flavour and even a Gregg's sausage roll is better than this. Craig's face looked a picture also, with his medley of insects, afterwards describing the same sensation of thousands of tiny bits. Never again but happy that we tried them.
