Today was quite a lazy day as I had a lay in and while eating breakfast got talking with Fiona and Rachel who were from Manchester and I said I would go with them on a motorbike again today as I had done it yesterday and had some idea of where we could go. They didn't really want to go alone and I had nothing to do today.
We grabbed 3 bikes from the same guy as yesterday and although half the day was over we were still charged the full day rate, but we did try to negotiate without any luck.
As we only had half a day the two girls are not really bothered where they went they just wanted to get out and see some of the countryside. I told them about the coastal route that I did yesterday with Eva and they were quite happy just to do that route. The two of them got automatic bikes and I got another manual.
We set off and once out of the city the girls really enjoyed the quiet costal road and as per yesterday all the kids were still shouting "Hello" at us as we passed them. Today I managed to get a photo of someone that we had seen yesterday. It was a woman on a motorbike going around the different villages carrying about 100 ducks in baskets hanging off her bike. It was quite a sight but I only managed to get a photo of her as she stopped to sell some.
At about half way around Fiona and Rachel started to panic about the amount of fuel that they had left, I said that they shouldn't panic it will last for ages still, but they wanted to get some anyway. In most places there are no petrol stations but every small store alongside the road sell petrol in old Coke bottles by the litre. I am sure that it is not safe to have a shelf full of petrol in old plastic bottles sitting in the 35˚C heat all day, but I guess they know best.
The funniest thing happened when we pulled up at the store/shack at the side of the road. The owner came over and poured the petrol in the fuel tank of the bike and then once we had paid, just came over to Fiona and grabbed her breasts and started laughing hysterically. She was saying something to her daughter who was also at the store and from what we could work out, she was amazed at how big her breasts were and just couldn’t take her hands off them. She kept grabbing them and laughing. Every time someone else came over to the store she did it again. It was quite weird but also very funny. I guess Vietnamese women just don’t have such big breasts!!!
We did a much shorter route today, but both girls liked the route that we did and although we were only out for a few hours they enjoyed it. For me, it was a bit boring as I had seen and done so much more the day before, but I guess it beats sitting around the hostel all day doing nothing.
I had seen all the sights in Hue by now and decided to book the bus to my next destination which was Hoi An, a 6 hour day bus south down the coast.
