Due to my uneventful night last night I was awake quite early for a change and decided to go and hire another motorbike so that I could go and explore some of the surrounding area and take some pictures. So I went down to reception and for the first time had to fill in a form/disclaimer before I could hire the bike and then I got out my Lonely Planet Southeast Asia on a Shoestring and planned the route that I would take today.
My first port of call was Datanla Falls which was around 5km south of the main town, which once I found my way out of town, didn't take too long at all to get there. When I got here I bought my ticket and headed through the rainforest and down the steep steps to the waterfall at the bottom. I was quite surprised with what I saw here as there was some kind of bobsleigh ride that took people to the bottom where the waterfall was and when I got to the bottom there was a man dressed as a cowboy selling photos that you could have taken on his horse!
I bought a drink and sat and watched the bobsleigh ride for a little while and then gave in and asked if I could get a one way ticket back up to the top. Yes I could, so I quickly bought one and saved myself the long walk back up the stairs to the car park.....yes, I am so lazy and I know it!
My next stop was a place called the Chicken Village (know locally as Lang Dinh An) and called the chicken village due to the enormous concrete chicken statue in the middle of the village. I thought this would be an interesting sight so I started the 17km ride south of where I was. As there were not many road signs and the map I had didn't cover this area I checked my mileage on the bike and set off. After I had gone 25km and still not come across the village, I kind of thought that I must have gone the wrong way somewhere and turned back towards town. The only problem was that I didn’t really know where I was, but I knew the direction that I should be going and when I stopped for some extra fuel at a shack beside the road, I asked directions and they said I was on the right road which headed straight in to town.
My next problem was that it started to pour down as I got close to the town, so I decided to cut my journey short due to getting soaked, park up the bike at the hotel to see if it stopped and catch up on some blogs while I waited.
It didn’t stop and I never got a chance to head out again and see the other places that I wanted to see. For dinner I got out the Lonely Planet and headed over to a recommended restaurant called V Cafe. The restaurant had a live band, the food was OK but was a lot more expensive than the restaurant I had been the night before. Yet again I was eating dinner alone, but atleast this time there were some English people in there that I talked to.
I have uploaded my first video today, please let me know if you can watch it OK and I will keep adding them if it works. Cheers, Peter.
