Not a good night. We were disturbed by noises from next door. Not a good breakfast. Cheap cereals, sliced bread and tinned fruit!!
Off into the town. It was hot. We had been told that market day was interesting. It was. Fruit and produce from the area along with local crafts etc. However it was very hot and heaving. I'd had enough after 5 minutes. Mary's patience lasted a bit longer.
We visited the local museum this informed us of the history of the town but was arranged in a higgled and piggled way. There was also a section on Nelsonians who had gone to World War 1.
Following lunch we visited the Cathedral, a plain building but with beautiful stained glass windows. We then had a drive along the coast. Had a drink in a boat shed overhanging the sea. It was hot but a really lovely spot with stunning views.
On our way back to our B& B we visited the Queens Gardens. A beautiful park. Many of the trees were planted in the 1850s. I left my phone in the gardens. However on ringing the number later in evening. It was answered by a policeman. Someone had handed it in. As the policeman said there are still some honest people around.
The day ended with a meal back in town at a fish restaurant.
PS Mary and Chris met an interesting man wearing only a very small thong. He had suffered from prostate cancer and was showing the world his scrotum!! Dave and I disappeared very quickly.
