I have finally arrived!
I had a dream of trip so far, Etihad Airways on my two long haul flights were luxury defined and everything was on time, but my favourite leg of the journey was my last minute flight from Bangkok to Vientiane. I arrived at Bangkok airport at 7.15 am local time and asked at the desk when the next flight I could catch to Vientiane would be. Her answer: "It leaves in an hour and a half. Run! Run!" So I ran to The Laos Airways desk, bought my ticket and was leaving Bangkok before you could say "political unrest". However it doesn't end there, when I got to the gate to board I noticed there were only about 30 people there. We all hopped on one bus and all had seats, and were ferried over to our small jet. Normally you board a plane through a tunnel or up a big flight of steps on wheels. Not here, we had a box, with four steps and a plane with propellors. It was so vintage darling.
The views into Vientiane were stunning, just miles and miles of green forest carved into sections by brown rivers. It was also made all the more interesting by a pilot who clearly loved to show off. There were some retching noises coming from a few rows behind me. Anyway, I got a nice little taxi (not that nice, there doesn't appear to be any traffic laws in Laos) to Vientiane and here I am, waiting for Monky and Morgan to make an appearance. And here I shall leave you. x
