We had a much more pleasant second leg. Both slept well - Bruce probably got 6 hours; I would have had 4 or so. Our section of the cabin was well behaved and it wasn't until we landed that I realized there was a baby in the centre rows. Very well behaved. Must be good parents.
We made good time through customs and immigration to a taxi that got us to the apartment in The Pijp (pronounced pipe). It is a nice place although it's on the 4th floor and places in Amsterdam have such steep and narrow stairs. It's only one rung down from a ladder (sorry for the pun!).
Our host Douwe is a nice guy. He and his fiancé are saving to get married next year so renting the apartment is a nice earner. We showered and headed for a walk around the district. The Albert Cuypt Markt is a street market close by that sells everything but bikes, so we bought fruit and provisions. Once back at the apartment we encountered an issue with the keys. We couldn't get in. Luckily Douwe works nearby and was able to show us the trick.
While waiting for his arrival, Bruce discovered that some places on the corner are used by local "businesswomen" and no doubt do a roaring trade.
Once free of the provisions, we headed out to the Flower Market and Centrum. The streets were clogged!
Amsterdam is a very scenic city with great architecture. They adopt the Parisian view to dog droppings however, which is a trap for young players.
Bruce had read that the Dutch are the tallest nation in Europe. From what we saw walking around yesterday this is most likely true. Several people towered over we six-footers.
After some retail therapy, we caught the tram back to the Pijp for a rest.
We ate locally from a wide selection. There is an Indian balti restaurant on a corner that looked good, but before we went in we checked the Argentinian grill next door. We selected the latter and were amused to note that the Indian waiter at the first restaurant worked here as well! Not working both sides of the street as they were next door. He said he was just helping out, but for which one?
The short walk home was enough for two tired ozzies, so to dream of stairs!

Debra Kilsby The well behaved baby was pure luck I'd say rather than good parenting !! Are you doing airb&b for your accommodation? My hasn't travel changed. Looking forward to doing your trip along with you. Xx
