The countdown may have begun some time ago and as we head into the sub-3 week phase it's time to start preparing for Europe. There's the usual "what to take / do I need to buy anything" issues. The house and garden have to be readied for Hanadi and Michael (although some of the jungle out back will remain in its overgrown state). There's also catching up with friends and family to celebrate birthdays and keep up with their busy lives. There's also the apparent need to see as many people before we go .... in case something happens? While these are delightful opportunities to share a meal, there is a fairly maudlin aspect to it. As I try to put my mind into positive mode - always a challenge - I focus on the excitement of seeing places new. So to you, dear reader, I offer this blog as a vicarious way to experience something of what we see or remember your own nostalgia if our travels take us to places familiar to you. I hope I do your memories justice. Some of my musings will be boring - bear in mind that this will be a permanent record for me to look back on as I decline into my dotage. I will try and keep it entertaining so rely on you to give me a virtual yawn when you think I continue to be mundane. Don't be frightened to switch off; this record is mostly for me. If it keeps you amused, I'm glad. So, here we go!
