Ok, so last Tuesday was a big day for me and Jake in particular. It was England vs Ghana, and for the whole day I had kids coming up to me saying " Ghana will score you!" (not the best use of english, but everyone here says it, not just the kids)
In the evening, Mr.Acquah Heyford had his T.V dragged outside onto the driveway so that all the boarders could watch the match with us. It was perfect; to our right over the jungle, there was a massive lightning storm without any thunder or rain. We all gathered around and it was quite a cool night for once. Alot depended on this match because if England lost, then i would have had to pack my bags and come home, because not one of the students would have let me forget that Ghana scored us. So, you can imagine my frustration when i learnt that Capello decided to leave out Rooney, Gerrard, Terry, Cole, and Lampard. Anyway, the match started and for the first couple of minutes, everyone clapped whenever a ghanaian touched the ball: even Kirby had a ghanaian flag draped around his head.
Coming up to the first half, sweating a little from Ghana's numerous chances, England scored. The place fell silent apart from me, but i still celebrated. The second half came, and at first England looked strong, but that soon changed, and Ghana played much better than us. In true England fashion, we conceded a goal with minutes to go, and we threw the game away. I was absolutely gutted. I had already thought about all the ways i would rub it to the kids. They celebrated like they won the game, and although i really wanted to win, it probably was the best result because they would have just responded by telling me the referee made bad decisions which cost them the game.
Apart from that, very little happened over the last week. Me and Kirby were told we needed to write tests for all our classes on friday; to be given later that day. It was pretty stressful, and we were convinced it was an april fools joke at first, but it wasn't. To our surprise, all the kids knew what April fools was, and their favorite joke would be to tell one of their friends that a teacher wanted to see them down in the primary. It was good fun, and one of the boarders nearly pulled the best joke on Kirby. He told him that there was a PTA meeting down the road, and that he needed to be there. Kirby ate it up at first because this boarder doesnt really joke around, and it quite serious. Kirby was just about to walk down the road, when i asked if it was a april fools joke. A small smile gave him away, and i immidiately wished i hadn't said anything because despite what Kirby would tell you, he would have gone.
This coming thursday, me, kirb, jake and all the girls have one month to go travel. We're all really excited because the last few days have been quite hard, with all the marking, and nothing to do in the evenings. We're starting off in Takoradi, then moving down to the green turtle lodge at Busua beach; where we will stay in tents on the beach. I'll write more about the places we visit during our travels, but some of the places on our hitlist are: Boafeng monkey sanctuary, Mole national park (elephants, monkeys, occasional lions and wartogs), lake volta, and all the major cities on the way.
Also on Thursday which is nearly as important as the start of our travels, is the Masters. Me and kirby have both picked 10 golfers, and their combined scores will determine who wins the bet. There is a sports bar in Takoradi that me and kirb are visiting in the hope they will show the tournament.
As for the questions, i have a few minutes to answer them now:
have you got used to heat?
Yeah, it's getting alot better. Today it was overcast and 27 degrees all day.. we actually felt cold for a change
The power just cut out, so im out of time now ive rebooted it all back up. ill answer the questions another time.
Congratulations for Amy and Chris, that's great news
