Well, here we are... Sitting on our tarp at the Banjo stage, 3rd and final day of Hardly Strictly. Ralph Stanley and his band just finished up. The sun is finally descending behind us. A slight cloud covering is also making for a cooling relief from the intense afternoon sun. Memories of past HSB Sundays suddenly flood back. Emmylou always closes the final day at Banjo. This time around Rodney Crowell will be joining her in support of their collaborated album. The stress of getting up and out here this morning makes it all worth it now. After just three hours of sleep we made it down here around 2am. Luckily there was a spot for our tarp at the front of the stage, left of center. The memories of bring here at this early hour are so clear. The scent of crunching eucalyptus leaves on the sandy ground permeates the darkness. We are guided through Hellman Hollow by the sights and sounds of lights powered by generators. Other die-hard fans are seen in the distant, hoping to claim their space with tarps, folding chairs and coolers in hand. Then off to the bus and what seemed like forever to get back to the apartment, we slept for another three hours. A filling breakfast at Stacks in Hayes Valley prepared us for another day at the park. Our musical adventure started off with an all-female bluegrass band called "Della Mae" at the more casual Porch Stage. Their high energy fiddle and banjo playing impressed both of us. At certain moments the lead vocalist reminded us of Jennifer Nettles. The remainder of the afternoon was spent back at the Banjo Stage. Another highlight from that afternoon was Steve Martin and his band with Edie Brickell. As a memento from this event Pete bought himself two t-shirts. We also purchased a beautiful HSB silk screen print, soon to be hung in our apartment back in Rochester. The evening and festival itself is coming to an end. Feelings of both nostalgia and exhaustion come over us both. However, we're actually looking forward to a more casual San Francisco experience when this weekend concludes. No more early mornings or beating sun on our faces. Now it's time to relax and enjoy our city by the bay.
