After our 'interesting' group on our sailing trip (see last blog), we were hoping for better on our 4x4 driving trip round Fraser Island (the world's largest sand Island - tick). And we got it.
Our motley crew of 9 was composed of us (obviously), an English couple, an Austrian with experience of driving trucks and heavy things which was very helpful (Quote in the style of Schwarzenegger "I love to drive in dee sand"), a Canadian with a world of outdoor experience and three hilarious Italian men who had never camped in their lives and would whoop and scream like girls at the smallest fly or insect - brilliant.
This group ensured three great days of driving a 4x4 truck up and down beaches, round woodland and stopping at lakes, cliffs and campsites, and giggling at Italians. It was a great trip. The only downside of the trip was the sloppy and slap-dash advice and planning we were given in our briefing by our advisor 'Troy'.
Yes Troy was a complete tit. He had the annoying habit of ending every sentence with the sound / word 'Booshka'. E.g. 'So what you do is stick the car in second slam your food to the floor and booshka'. 'So you get to your campsite, boil some water whack in the pasta and booshka'. To complement his annoying language use Troy decided to give us a truck that was falling to bits. Now I'm no mechanic, but in my limited experience the following items should work: driver's side door, left front headlight, internal lighting, air con and - importantly - reverse! Yes our truck would be rather stubborn when reversing; it would in fact jump out of gear. We overcame this problem with some creative parking and when we did need to reverse the person in the passenger seat was required to lean all his weight onto the gear stick to stop it popping out whilst the driver floored it - Booshka. Anyway all in all a great trip
