Dear all, we arrived in Buenos Aires on Thursday December 6th after a British Airways flight; which had the usual level of comfort/discomfort. Initial impressions of BA are a large energetic, and despite the economic situation, prosperous city. We are with our friend Willis Fuller. Willis spent her childhood in BA and her sister Wendy still lives her. Wendy working with Willis have done much of the planning for the trip. On Thurday Wendy introduced us to the city and the huge Argentinean steks. We ordered the mini-steak and still had to leave half of it. the two disasters of the day were by Gillian she fell and bruised her knee; pavements are full of potholes no alcohol involved. Then in the evening she left her glasses in a restaurant; they were returned the next day.
On Friday we walked in the centre of the city visiting the main sites, we will upload our photographs. Needless to say the centre of the city confirms our initial impressions despite the supposed poverty there must be a lot of extreemly rich people.
On Saturday we had the excitement of visiting the National Polo Championship final. We were sitting in the Dolphina part of the cheaper seats but there were a few Ellestina supporters. Dolphina won 16 goals to 15. There was much ectatic shouting and soulful Ellestina despair. The riders and horses were totally amazing with incredible turns of speed ans changes of direction. This was a truly memorable experience. Meat featured again in the evening meal and we are going on a detox diet. We haven't yet cracked how to have a healthy diet!!
Our hotel Las Canitas in Palermo district only has 9 rooms. It is a boutique hotel, friendly staff with an imaginitive arty decor, it is to be thoroughly recommended including the free Wifi.
