This is our last full day in Madrid and still have things to see. We take a cab over to one of the other Holy places of Art in Madrid, the Renia Sofia Museum to be there as it opens. As it is there is already a line for ticket that stretches down the front stairs. There is a big Dali exhibit going on that is a big draw even for the locals. What the Prado has in Classics, this has in modern art. In other words, Chris is in his element and I’m dying. 45 minutes to do one floor, not even the Dali exhibit, just the regular stuff. I’m so done but I know that if I don’t go through it, I’ll wish I had and Paige will be disappointed in me. Two more hours later we stumble out. Two down one to go, the Thyssen. This one I’m looking forward to because its focused on impressionist, or at least that is their big exhibit there now. Now the table are turned and Chris decides to do some shopping while Ryan and I do the museum. Luckily, Ryan and I had very similar taste in art so we go through the whole museum in under an hour. Don’t get me wrong. I like the stuff I like, especially Van Gogh. But I also know what I don’t like and I don’t need a lot of time to figure out which is which. (Forgive my picture labels because I have no idea what was taken where or what it is.) By now its lunch time so we start walking toward Mile zero. Its Ryan’s turn to pick where we eat and hit hit it out of the park. El Barril de Las Letras was probably the best meal we had. Great Sangria, gastronomical seafood and perfect pasta. It was totally awesome. We walk back to mile zero to catch the subway back to the hotel. Chris heads up for a well deserved nap while I drag Ryan to the pharmacy nearby for more Ibuprofen; I was down to four Vicoden and wanted to save those for when I really needed it. The pharmacist took one look at my swollen ankle and started asking Ryan all sorts of questions. (It might have been a bit swollen at the time. Like three times it’s normal size.) After promising that I would be going to my doctor as soon as we got home, she gave me a box that lasted two weeks. Dinner tonight was at another neighborhood tapas place, La Cerveceria de San Julian, mainly because they were the only place open on a Sunday night. Since we had had such a big Lunch just a light nibble was all we were looking for. This fit the bill perfectly. Our last pitcher of Sangria, some meats and cheeses and bread. What else do you need? Ryan has done all the ordering for us, as usual, and once again gets asked why he speaks so well. Turns out our waiter’s parents are living in LA. Ryan says were neighbors because we live in Arizona. The guy brings over Bailey’s for all of us, on the house. Nice little place! You know, everywhere we have traveled, the glitzier the place, the less impressed I am with it. It aways seems that the little hole in the walls have a far larger reward for trying them.
