Today we were meeting up with my friend Liz, who I meet 29 years ago on my Contiki Trip in the UK. Her and her husband picked us up at our hotel at 10:30am. She just looked the same to me and it was great to finally meet her husband after all these years.
They took us to Granville Island first. Here there were public markets, which sold everything from fruit and meat to candles and soap! There seemed to be everything! Plus it was crowded as anything and I found it quite overwhelming. As Liz was in a wheelchair, we did seem to get a 'clear path' through the crowds though. We grabbed a coffee and spent sometime catching up with each other and then decided to catch the little aqua ferries for a 25 trip around False Creek, where there were plenty of condos to look at, as well as the BC Place Stadium and the Science World. Once back on dry land we decided we would head over to Stanley Park.
But first, we had a late lunch at a place called White Spot. It was a bit like our Cobb & Co. Glenn, Grant and myself had the $13 special, which included a beef burger, salad or fries and blueberry pie!! Was a huge meal for Grant and I, but Glenn and Liz had no trouble eating all of theirs! Was very filling and delicious!
After leaving White Spot, it was off to Stanley Park. Here we drove round the one way road, stopping at points of interest. First stop was the totem poles. These carved and painted totem poles tell stories of families, warriors, chiefs and traditions of BC's coastal First Nations. They were crafted from red cedar trees and are the most visited tourist attraction in British Columbia.
We also stopped at Prospect Point, which was the highest point in the park and had great views of the North Shore Mountains, Lion's Gate Bridge and Burrard Inlet.
We then stopped at Ferguson Point and looked down onto Third Beach, where there seemed to be a lot of people on the beach. This point also housed the up market Teahouse Restaurant. According to Liz, it was an expensive place to eat.
Our next stop was along English Bay Beach. Here there was the statue of the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games mascot. This was made out of stone and all balanced. Just next to it on the water front, people had balanced stones and there seemed to be hundreds of these all over the shore!
Liz and Glenn then took us up Robson Street to the store where their Daughter Christa works and whom we got to meet. Amazing store, but very expensive clothes! They then dropped us off back at our hotel. We had such a lovely day with them and it was such a treat for us to be personally shown around.
Grant and I were still kind of full from our lunch, that we ended up having a coffee and sharing a cinnamon bun!
Back to our hotel for some rest and thinking what we will do tomorrow! More adventures to come!!
