Headed up the TMG today to the 45th floor for some photos. Got up there took two photos of Mount Fuji, or to be more precise the mist / fog / pollution obscuring it and then my camera batteries ran out...I seriously need practice in the art of photography!!
Stopped off at a couple of inner city parks in Shinjuku and Hamariku-teien Garden for some peace, tranquility and green tea. Got a boat up the Sumida river to Asakusa where I visited the Sensoji Temple.
For a night out I decided to head to Roppongi where there are apparently some great music venues. Got there, had a good look around, plonked myself in a nice bar and ordered food and drinks, only then realising I had next to no cash left (as I had bought a backup battery with cash earlier). So I made my excuses and headed across the road to the brightly coloured ATM with VISA plastered all over it. I didnt know this but a VISA sign does not neccesarily mean you can get cash out. In fact I tried about half a dozen ATMs and none of them were giving me cash...One teased me a little by asking for my PIN...only to then tell me it would not accept my card...Ahhhhh.
With my VISA card as my only means of cash for the whole trip I started to get a little anxious. Headed to an Internet cafe (what would we do without them?) typed my problem into Google and hey presto apparently only CitiBank and a coule of other banks accept foreign VISA cards in Japan. So it was then off to track down a CitiBank. Back on the street I was approached by a really friendly fella asking if I was looking for anything...'Yeah, maybe you can help' I said...'No problem man, what do you want?, topless ladies, take you home? Whatever you want'...He didnt appear to know where the nearest CitiBank was...Haha
Couldnt find a suitable bank so headed back to the hotel with the cash I had and settled for a beer and set meal in one of the local bars...Japanese food is really tasty, even at the dead cheap end. Had a good night just chillin and people watching.
Hopefully I will find a CitiBank tomorrow or I will be contacting mates to send me money over through Western Union..
