Travel Day: Bruges to Limburg

We decided to sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast before packing and heading to the laundromat. Clean clothes packed, we walked 20 minutes to the station, loaded up on food for our journey and now we wait. In 5 hours we will be in Limburg.

Wait, scratch that...our train from Brussels to Limburg was cancelled because the air conditioning wasn't working. An hour on the train and now an hour on the bus and we will arrive in Aachen, Germany and then carry on to Limburg. Oh, and it's in the high 30s today! So long Belgium. Can't say I will miss you!

Finally, some good luck...bus arrived at Aachen just in time to catch an earlier than expected train to Koln. But our good fortune didn't last long...we had to wait just outside Koln station for 20 minutes because of construction and chaos at the station so missed our connection. Now waiting for the final train of what has turned into an 8-hour trip. Of course, it is 20 minutes late! Oh...make that cancelled! Now to figure out our next move. I'm about ready to say to heck with it and et a hotel in Koln for the night!

Everything is late or cancelled, the station is chaotic and it's impossible to get accurate information. Finally found a train going to Koblenz so we hopped on. It's a nice first class car that serves drinks and has air conditioning. We think we've died and gone to heaven!

Now in Koblenz and it is 10 pm. Another hour on the train and with any luck we will be in Limburg at last. We shall see!

Finally arrived at 11:30 at our flat. Splurged for a cab! Turns out the heat even caused a highway here to close because the pavement was buckling! Glad to be here at last!
