Worst bus journey ever!!
It was the roughest driving you could imagine! Pot holes galore, overtaking on blind bends, swerving around scooters, everything! But somehow, we managed to sleep! We practically had a double, the beds were so close together, and Paul was spooning a local!
We arrived in Hoi An at about 7am and got ushered onto a minibus to the centre. Little did we know that they were actually taking us to their hotel to try and get us to stay the night. We declined and found another hotel just down the road.
We dropped off our bags and went in search of breakfast, but nowhere was open except the most expensive looking bar! We settled for an English Breakfast Tea, which cost a fortune!
Hoi An is really pretty and has a bit of a French vibe to it. Lots of little alleys and yellow buildings. They don't let motorbikes through during the day, which makes it quite peaceful.
As places started to open, we followed the guidebook's recommendation for the best breakfast, and it was pretty good!
We then made our way back to the hotel and slept for most of the morning!
We went in search of lunch, and passed a bar that sold beer for 3000 dong (9p!!). Of course, we had to go in and sample it. It was rice beer and Paul enjoyed a couple of glasses and we decided to stay for lunch!
After lunch, we wandered around a local Market, where they tried to rip us off, but failed. We carried on shopping around the road stalls, and Paul bought his Beer Saigon T Shirt! Sarah opted for some custom made flip flops!
We wandered back down to the river and saw a little fishing boat that you could have a drink on, so we had a couple of drinks until it started to get dark. The river is very pretty in the dark, lots of lights and lanterns.
We made our way back to the hotel, via a couple more shops, and Sarah bought some Ali Baba trousers!!
We got ready for dinner, and Sarah wore her new trousers. It's still warm up here, but a bit chillier than the south. Thinking that we may need a few more clothes for the North!
We had a nice dinner overlooking the river and stopped in a fancy (and overpriced) bar, full of colourful cushions, on the way back to the hotel. It was about 10.30, and everywhere had shut down! A quick donut, then off to bed!
