We arrived in Granada in the early afternoon and my right foot was hurting bad from my motorbike accident. The impact of the bike collapsing on it had clearly done some damage and I was unable to put any weight on it. This meant that after I checked into the hostel I was resigned to spending the rest of the day in bed with an icepack on my foot. Unfortunately this didn’t change much for the next few days. When I finally became manoeuvrable again we all went for pizza in the evening. However there was seriously something wrong with my meat feast as I was up all night with a fire in my stomach and the next day I felt like I had been hit by a train and spent all that day in bed as well.
All this meant I didn’t get to see much of Granada which was a real shame. It was the first ‘proper’ colonial town of my Central America trip, with elegant churches and a bustling plaza that I didn’t get to experience fully. It also has a rich history due to its access to the Caribbean via the Rio San Juan and was the base for conservatives during the civil war with liberal Leon during the 1850s.
