One positive of spending the extra days in QT was that I had Anna for company on the 8 hour trip up to Christchurch. Apart from a stop off to see Mt. Cook, New Zealand’s tallest mountain, the journey was very long and boring. I even had to endure watching Top Gun which I was happy about. Our evening in Christchurch was a lot more pleasant than getting there. We strolled around the beautiful city which lives up to its name as being the more ‘English City’ outside of England. The cathedral, churches and houses all resemble those back home. We had a walk through the Botanic Gardens which are the third largest city garden in the world and went for some sushi. It was a lovely evening and a shame it was the last I spent with Anna who I got on really well with.
One thing I really didn’t enjoy about Christchurch was I am 90% certain I saw Ryan Jarman from The Cribs who were set to play a gig in the city that weekend. I didn’t have the balls though to go up and ask him and if it was him get a photo. It wasn’t the not knowing whether it was him or not (although it almost probably, definitely was), it was the fact I was too nervous to go up and ask him. I was on this round the world trip, supposedly jumping feet first into new experiences but I didn’t have the balls to ask this guy if he played in a small English band. I guess it scared me that I would return home and not have grown or changed as a person. If I returned home and not improved as a person I would be very disappointed and upset with myself.
