Day 110. Home at last. We awoke to our last day on this Big Trip, it almost seems unbelievable. An early morning bike ride around the pretty town and river, a trout rising near the shore. Departing Tumut on a brilliant sunny Spring day we drove the scenic route through the tiny village of Brungle to Gundagai. The countryside is so beautiful and green as we climbed from one valley to the next. Onto the M31 freeway we were soon passing familiar towns Jugiong and Yass and then exiting onto the Barton Highway towards Canberra. We stopped in the park at the tiny village of Murrumbateman for lunch, and then we were soon entering the ACT and Canberra. We decided to drive right through the City Centre and over Commonwealth Avenue Bridge, through Kingston and onto the Monaro Highway to Tuggeranong. We felt a little emotional as we descended into our beautiful green valley and finally to our home in Calwell. Our garden was in full Spring bloom and looked so beautiful.
We have had a wonderful journey and adventure over almost four months, travelling 20,000km seeing our beautiful country. We have experienced the Murray River Valley, Opal town of Cooper Pedy, Red Centre Alice and Uluru, hot springs of Mataranka, Kakadu, Darwin, Litchfield, Kimberley, Argyle, Bungles, Pilbara, North West Cape, Ningaloo Reef, Shark Bay, WA wildflowers, Perth, Fremantle, South West Capes and tall forests, Albany, Esperance, Kalgoorlie Gold, Nullabor, Eyre Peninsular, Yorke Peninsular, Barossa Valley wineries, Gold Region of Victoria, Tumut Valley and a myriad of places in between. We are so proud of our country, our strong colonial heritage, military history, attractive towns, beautiful beaches and coastline, wildlife and plants and National Parks. This trip has made us appreciate our communities, farmers, fishermen, miners, port operators, road train drivers, shop keepers, tourism operators and all our people striving in all their many endeavours. Visiting our distant family members and catching up with friends were a real bonus of this journey. Our Toyota Prado and Jayco Sterling caravan have been very reliable and performed with ease and comfort. Until our next journey, farewell to this Blog!
