An attractive little town mainly closed on a Saturday afternoon. Had a glass of wine and shared a salami baguette. In this part of Germany a glass of wine is 25cl - a third of a bottle - no less, no more. We are here because we were narrowly beaten to the last remaining space on the Stellplaatz at Amberg. Sadly, no parking after 06:00 Monday as the town prepares for a Folk Festival next weekend. 12/5/2013. Lunch at Café-Restaurant Grosser on the Stellplatz....

Very little sleep for us last night. Today is a Public Holiday in Germany and last night the youth population gathered near our Stellplatz to celebrate the approaching narcoleptic near-death experienced on Public Holidays when nothing, but nothing, moves. The shouted conversations ebbed and flowed through the small hours only abating when the taxis and minibuses arrived shortly before 05:00 to take the bellowing boys and squealing girls to their well earned res...

The kindest word to describe this town is - pleasant. Interesting it is not. A few shops, including a Deichmans where D bought some shoes, several eating places - at one of which we had a pleasant pork lunch - and a pleasant church. After our pork, croquette potatoes and inevitable cream sauce we stopped at an Eis Café. Very pleasant. No rain today thank goodness after the downpours at Kastl, pleasant sunshine even ..... Very little sleep tonight. Kept awake...

What a climb. I should have counted the steps. In one of the photos you can just make out our van. There is nothing but the huge church and a few buildings at the top - no sign of life anywhere. I don't think I've been in a more attractive church. Massive and ornate yet amazingly light and airy and beautifully cared for. The little aire is nice and the toilet block is beautifully clean. There is a bar cum pizza restaurant 30 seconds away and it's a 1 minute wal...

Nice weather, nice place, nice sausage snack/lunch with excellent Helles beer. Bike rides, gypsies sharing our aire, storks nesting, lovely.
