Research, things to do, Charity challenges and activities
It's 7 weeks till my last day at work so since time is passing by very quickly,
thought I'd do another update.
I've done a lot of research to find out what to do and where's good to visit, there's so much on the internet its hard to know where to start but I found some good sites so if anyone's thinking of going anywhere then check out the two websites below which I found to be the best ones.
This website is good has lots of information about, Visas, top things to see and do in each country, Check out Cambodia, yes firing a rocket launcher is a top thing to do! Brilliant, after a bit more research you can actually ask to fire a rocket launcher at a cow, you know me I like my steak but that's going a bit far to make sure it's well done!
This website was one of the first I found, its very good on showing basic information on the places, customs, getting around etc.. but its very limited around Europe. Well worth a look if your planning on going anywhere as it gives a tourist rating so if you want to get off the beaten track this one will tell you where out of the norm is.
Thanks to Susie and John Jacka who lent me a Paris and Europe on a shoestring book, that's been helpful, there's so much to do, so I'm just doing the basics and hopefully play it by ear when were are out there.
I've also bought a few travel guides, one for China, the lonely planet one, after I bought it Nicola at work said she was sure it was banned, typical me. I've bought the only book in China to be confiscated on entry due to Tibet and Taiwan being shown as separate entities. Oh well looks like I'm going to be ripping out pages that I need.
Chinas one of the places I really want to go, I want to see the Great Wall of China, see pandas, drink dark Tsing Tao beer and see the terracotta soldiers. I went to the Chinese New Year festival last week with Emily and Max in Manchester city centre, it was brilliant, massive dragon parades, balloons and hectic streets full of people trying to sell you something. I thought I'd tried some Chinese food other then lemon chicken or duck in orange sauce and guess what, yes I didn't like it! It was only noodles and I'm not too keen on rice too, so looks like I'm going to either die of starvation in China or get over my fussy food fad, which I still blame on my mum mashing sprouts into apple sauce, I'll never forgive you for that mum!
One of the major things I want to do on this trip is to swim with Sharks ideally for my 30th Birthday next year, I should be in Australia so it's the second best place in the world to do it. If I can get on an expedition for a week I should be able to make the shark dive with a Great white in a cage that would be awesome. If I only achieve this and don't make it round South America I wouldn't be too bothered.
I've listed my activities below but if you have anymore suggestions that should be on here add them via the comments section at the bottom.
If someone wants to sponsor me to do something a bit weird then let me know via the message board or the contact me page, keep it clean and legal mind you. If there's enough interest I'll set up an account on the Cancer Research UK website so you can donate there, say £5 per normal challenge, anything a bit extreme will require some negotiation. If I don't do it after I've agreed to it (which means me adding it to the charity listing below), I'll pay the money instead, can't say fairer than that!
This list will get updated on an ongoing basis as I guess I'll find something that I never thought of and it looks cool so why not do it. I will update each item once I've done them and try to link it to the relevant page on my blog. You can then read about where I did it and what it was like, so bookmark this page and come back to it regularly.
