Puno and Copacabana - 20th and 21st April
Puno was our last stop in Peru ready for the skip over to Bolivia and unfortunately it wasn´t a pleasant one due to my physical breakdown (thank you though body for not breaking down on the Inca Trail).
The bus journey from Cuzco to Puno started OK despite the 8am start after a 4 day trek, but 3 hours into the 7 hour journey my body decided to go into shut down mode and I started feeling absolutely terrible. I managed to hold on for about an hour, but then without any real warning was forced to vomit into a plastic bag - the dignity. Fortunately the bus wasn´t too full and Sarah was a star and looked after me. Spent the rest of the journey swaying, sweating and looking very pale, but thankfully made it off the bus without more incident. Other passengers looked on in horror - pretty embarrassing.
I spent the rest of the day in bed at our Puno hostel feeling very sorry for myself, but fortunately the landlady was unbelievably kind and understanding and even gave me a hot water bottle!
Felt a bit better the next day so we had a quick wander round the town which was very small, but quaint and then headed on yet another bus to Copacabana. Realised when we got to the bus station that I´d kept our room key in my pocket - arrrrgggghhhh, sorry kind landlady.
Journey passed without incident, but realised when we got off the bus that Sarah had accidentally booked a hostel in La Paz for us that night! It was getting dark so we just headed to the nearest place we could find which turned out to be pretty crap and didn´t even give us towels, but fortunately we were only there 1 night.
