Just a quick note to let you know that we have just taken the scariest bus ride I have ever been on. We have uploaded a video of the trip but it does not do it full justice. We were travelling from San Agustin to Pasto near to the Columbia-Ecuador border. The bus looked like it should have decommisioned many years ago and the roads were just about wide enough for a car.
The road surface was broken rocks and gravel and we losty count of the amount of waterfalls that were cascading over the road surface that we had to drive through. When traffick was coming the other way our bus had to pull to the outside of the track with its wheels balanced on the edge of a sheer drop (up to 1000m) straight down the mountain. There is no crash barrier and unbeknownst to me at the time (she rightly judged that I wouldn't want to know), Katie spotted the rusting shells of some unlucky buses at the bottom of the drops. We had seven long spine shattering hours of this and four of them were in the dark. Did I mention that the headlights weren't working?...
Needless to say we were a little nervous at the time and maybe brown trousers should have been the chosen item of attire for the day.
WE'RE ALIVE!
