Day 39 and we had a rare lie in as our ferry left at 230 in the afternoon. We made the most of it, laying in till about 11-12 (which is well late for us!). After the girls had been for their now mandatory Bakery trip, we got a minivan taxi to the ferry terminals and chilled out until our ferry left. It was a long and arduous journey, Helen nearly being sea sick and complaining about the cockroaches in the cabin. We arrived in Georgetown about 6pm and checked into the SD Motel which was very good for the price we paid. We managed to get our first room, designed for 5 people. We went out for dinner in Chinatown which was awesome, not to busy though as it was a sunday night. They had a 'MacWaffle' stand which was basically a ice cream stand where Coops had Deep Fried Ice cream and Luke had a massive waffle. We then headed back towards the hostel, played some pool in a bar for a while then headed to bed.
Day 40 and we awoke to a scorching hot day. We left the hostel about 10am and instantly we started sweating while walking down the street. Me Luke and Burns had horrific sweat patches on our back, and seemed to find it funny to slap each others back to make them stick to our skin. After a short walk we reached a giant shopping complex where we wandered the shops and bought a few things. We got a bit bored so decided to watch a movie at the cinema. We settled on the new Bond movie, Quantam of Solace, for a modest 2 pounds. Overall impression of the movie, I wasnt to impressed, not as good as Casino Royale, but a decent watch. After the movie we wandered around Little India, checking out the Indian food for later on. We went out later and found a local food outlet where we had some awesome curry, rice and naan for pennies. Was so tasty, Helen found it a bit to spicy though, so after we went back to Chinatown where she found something more to her liking. Again, MacWaffle was visited and we got waffles and ice cream etc. We planned on an early night as tmoro we would be heading to the Cameron Highlands, about a 5 hour drive with our taxi leaving at 6am.
Day 41 and the first alarm went off at 4am so Luke and Burns could call home from the downstairs phone. The alarm for us to get up and ready went off at 530am. Once up and crammed into a tiny minivan, we were off, on a long and very uncomfortable drive. Windy roads, loads of bumps, no leg room, and Helen next to me complaining about her jumpy leg (Restless Leg Syndrome for the proper term). We seemed to keep going up and up and round another 'highland' for ages. Eventually, after driving through numerous tea fields and loads of little villiages, we arrived at our hostel, Daniels Lodge. The staff were very friendly, but the place stank of wet dog, but apart from that it was pretty good. The temperature is low in the highlands, about 15-20 degrees with no humidity! Its a bit of a shock to us all, and for the first time since we've been away were wearing jeans and combats. Dinner was at one of the many curry houses around the town, and we finished the night by playing cards in the Jungle Bar. We also sat round a massive bonfire till the early hours.
