Day 34 and we awoke for our 2nd and last day in Krabi, it was mega hot, scorching. We headed into town and bought some bits and bobs from Boots (as you do) and then had a walk around for a park to play frisbee and chill. Luke decided to buy a Litre of Chocolate Milk, then he had a Chocolate brownie and after frisbee we all had sundaes. Lukes sundae was Chocolate again. I was starting to suspect he had a secret craving on the go. He also lost his sunglasses. Well I say lost, he knew where they were, he was just to lazy to go and get them from the fountain were he left them. We had dinner at a small hostel, which wasnt serving Beer like advertised, and then also said there was no rice for Lukes Curry, just as 'mine was brought out with rice. He wasn't happy. We spent the rest of the night playing free pool in yet another Írish themed pub and sank a couple of brewskis.
Day 35 was another travelling day with us getting up for a 7am mini van ride to Hat Yai in southern Thailand. It was a pretty uncomfortable journey, made slighly worse by our kamikaze driver who was overtaking people on blind corners, and on his phone pretty much the whole way. Burns and Helen sat in the front next to the driver and kept trying to change the radio station or fiddle with the fans, but the driver wasn't having any of it. Once we got to Hat Yai, we checked into the Cathay Guest house, pretty grotty but good location and cheap. We then spent the rest of the day trying to find stuff to do. We wasted the day and then had dinner in a decent looking restaurant. The service was anything but decent though. We ordered, and firstly they brought Helen the wrong food out. Then they claimed she ordered a Salmon Baguette (anyone who knows Helen knows she can be a little fussy and would never order Salmon). Then they brought the wrong pasta for Laura. And finally, my Beef sandwich arrived, 45 minutes and 3 requests later. After dinner we had a 2 hour internet session trying to upload photos which was succesful, eventually. Coops and her Family (chatting on MSN) were also trying to convince us that 1 English pound = 1.5 Baht, which is completely wrong. She was adamant it was right, and her family couldn't possibly be wrong, and was then embarressed when she realised her mistake. I'll be sure to remind he of this throughout the trip.
Day 36 and we got up early for a 2 hour drive to a port and then a 1 hour ferry to Malaysia, specifically Langkawi. Getting used to the new Currency was to prove tricky. We checked into the Shirin Guest house (after looking for ages in the hot sun) very good value, and we got a free beer on arrival. My back was so sweaty it was unreal. In the evening we went to a night market where we all got the best value food yet. I had a beefburger, and a massive tray of noodles and peppers and things for about 70p.
Day 37 and we had all agreed to a lazy day on the beach. Luke and I got pretty badly sunburnt, but it wasnt to bad. The others found it hilarious that I was so red and Luke made me pose for a photo displaying my 'line'of red constrasting the white. We found another cheap lunch for about 80p, but the girls had other ideas and found, yep you guessed it, another bakery where they had sarnies and cheesecake. Typical. We chilled out more on the beach in the afternoon, played some frisbee and headed out for dinner at the Red Tomato which had been reccomended. I had Beef buryani, a bottle of water and a naan bread, all for a pound, cant go wrong. We then headed out for drinks with some people from our Hostel, two Canadians called Heather and Augustos. We bought some beers and found a closed bar, but it was actually open to a few locals. We joined some other English, people and also some Swedes, an Aussie, and 2 dutch girls. We started some drinking games, and Dan Wall will be pleased to know his Ring of Fire Rule card he gave to us before our trip came in handy. The game was started over 2 tables using 2 packs of cards. It was epic. It took over an hour for 1 round to be played. Some weird rules were made, the best one being, you couldnt drink your own drink, someone else had to pour it into your mouth for you. We headed to bed about 1am after meeting some cool people and chilling for a while. We also introduced High Card Chug to the other travellers which we have done to most people we have met. (Everyone gets dealt a card, the highest card means you drink - simple. Luke invented this game I think).
Day 38 and we had hired out a car for our last day in Langkawi. We left earlyish about 9am, and headed for The Oriental Villiage. The best way to describe it is to imagine a small Thorpe Park abroad. It had loads of shops, stalls and even a cable car which we went on. There were some awesome views, though Coops was a bit scared of the heights, especially when Burns Luke and I started swinging the cable car about. Afterwards we headed to a waterfall where we had a brief swim and had our packed lunch of tuna mayo sandwichs. We then headed for the Black Sand Beach. Once we got there and saw it was literally just a beach of black sand, we left. We then went to the exciting Go Kart Track, it was 1.2km a lap, so pretty long. 8 pound for about 10 minutes driving, Helen sat out so it was just Me, Coops, Burns and Luke. As we lined up on the start line we all floored it and Coops took an early lead. Soon Luke passed her and he was gone, miles clear never to be seen again, however me and Coops were left to scrap it out for the 8 laps. It was a good battle, she lead to start with, but made a mistake and then I passed and gained a lead. I then made a few errors, and she passed me on the straight. She as a girl, was lighter so clearly had a faster Kart on the straights, but I was smoother through the corners. I overtook her once again on lap 5 and in the last few laps she started to gain but could never get close enough to pass. Burns came 4th but was pleased with that as he isnt really into the speed thing and just enjoyed the drive. Real good laugh, especially for my first stint in a Go Kart. We have agreed to do it again where we aim to get closer to Luke. Coops has dreams of beating me into 3rd, but that won't happen. Back at the hostel, we met with the owner for the first time (we had only met his wife previously). He had a massive shoe on one leg (I think it was because he had one leg shorter than the other). He seemed a bit odd, and when he saw the car we were driving, he bored us with a story involving his car and about he was claiming money on insurance for an accident he'd had (or something like that - I wasn't really paying attention). We had dinner at the Red Tomato again and then stayed up late watching the football (Arseanl vs Man Utd). The crazy big shoe'd man took ages messing about with his TV, much to Burns' annoyance, when all he wanted to do was watch the game.
