12/13 December - On a bright and sunny day we decided to move on to the The Catlins which is a forested region right down south. We didn't realise it was a rainforest and it didn't stop raining from the time we arrived to the time we left! Camping was not fun but we were dry and reasonably warm but Chris resorted to wearing her hat in bed as she was cold. The scenery was great but the wind blew and blew........ It didn't stop us getting out, we just donned our wet weather gear, hats and gloves and got on with it. Saw more wildlife on the beaches, fur seals, sea lions but still no penguins - yet. We were attacked by a mad oyster catcher - didn't realise at the time that we were too close to its nest. Have been to the Cathedral Caves which are only accessible at low tide and visited McLean Falls. We've now moved on to Invercargill having been out of contact for three days as we had no mobile reception in The Catlins. We're staying in accommodation tonight as it's still raining! They say it's going to improve - we hope so! Moving on tomorrow to Te Anau.
